Bayern Munich winger Serge Gnabry believes Ousmane Dembele is a better player than Kylian Mbappe.
The 26-year-old knows the pair well as he has faced both at club level and believes Dembele is the more talented of the duo, even though he has largely struggled to live up to his potential since moving to Barcelona and Mbappe is considered one of the best players in the world.
'The best player between Dembele and Mbappe? For me, it's Dembele,' he told his Bayern Munich teammates on 'Behind the Legend', Amazon Prime's upcoming documentary on the Bundesliga giants.
'If I could dribble like Dembele, I would be better too.'
From a statistical standpoint, there is little evidence to back up Gnabry's stance. At just 22 years of age, Mbappe has already scored 168 goals in 245 games at club level and 19 in 51 for France.
Having won the Ligue 1 title with Monaco in the 2016-17 season, Mbappe has racked up another 10 major trophies since moving to PSG at the beginning of the following campaign and has finished as Ligue 1 top scorer for the last three seasons.
Mbappe scored in the 2018 World Cup final as France were crowned world champions for a second time and lifted the UEFA Nations League with Les Bleus earlier this month.
Dembele, meanwhile, has scored 52 goals in 197 games at club level and four in 27 games for the national team. Like Mbappe, the 24-year-old was part of the France team that triumphed at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but played a more peripheral role.
A German cup winner with Borussia Dortmund in 2017, Dembele has won five major trophies since moving to Barcelona the following season but his spell at the Camp Nou has been beset by a catalogue of injuries.
Bayern midfielder Joshua Kimmich, meanwhile, suggested the debate between Mbappe and Dembele was pointless.
'If I am asked to choose between Dembele and Gnabry or Coman, I would always take Gnabry or Coman,' the six-time Bundesliga champion said.
'To be honest, this debate on Dembele p*sses me off.'
