Italy are the European Champions for the first since since 1968. They defeated England in the final of the Euro 2021 after a penalty shoot out was held.
Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka missed the penalties for England respectively. It was a drastic moment for England after the penalties were missed.
England has won only one major trophy in their entire career and that was the World Cup which was held in 1966.
England has qualified for the FIFA World Cup 15 times. It won the 1966 World Cup, when it also hosted the finals, and finished fourth in both 1990 and 2018.
Italy on the other hand are unbeaten in their last 33 matches in all competitions (27 wins, six draws), scoring 87 goals and conceding 11 during the run.
Roberto Mancini transformed Italy team totally as he was appointed manager six months after Italy failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup under Gian Piero Ventura, after a play-off defeat to Sweden in November 2017—the first time Italy had failed to qualify for the tournament since the 1958 FIFA World Cup.
Despite Cristiano Ronaldo who was knocked out during the round of 16 stage, he still manage to clinch the Euro golden boot with five goals. Patrick Schick also scored five goals during the tournament but Cristiano Ronaldo defeated him because of the assist he made against Germany in Group stage.
Gianluigi Donnarumma was named as the player of the tournament. Donnarumma was just too superb against England as he saved two penalties against England. He also helped Italy to cross the semi final against Spain after he put on a miraculous performance.
